A good while ago, I had a little part-time business making wire-wrapped jewelry. When I began to study jewelry fabrication, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to include gems or beads in this new work. While looking through my leftover stash of beads, I was inspired to use those materials after all; as with the upcycled textile goods, I’m very much into using what is already available instead of consuming more raw materials.
Here are a couple of examples. I used my “bird cage” wrapping technique to surround the orange agate beads in the feature photo; the dangles are reticulated silver. The photos below shows this technique used to encircle a pearl, which is then joined to a matte silver disk.
